Discovering Saint Lucia via Ti Kaye
‘The world is a book, those who do not travel read only one page.’ Saint Augustine

On the volcanic island of Saint Lucia situated on the Caribbean archipelago with the Atlantic Ocean on the East coast and the Caribbean Sea on the West, the island’s rich heritage is influenced by strong African, Indian and European cultures. With topography so distinct and varied, Saint Lucia’s landscape is a riddled with mountains, waterfalls, valleys and many beaches; from soft white sand to glistening dark silver grey sands, a direct result of the islands volcanoes. With so much to see, Saint Lucia is the ideal island escape.

To achieve the perfect vacation on the perfect island, finding the idyllic resort is half the challenge. Ti Kaye Village Resort & Spa is truly made with the romantic-at-heart in mind with private gingerbread cottages on the cliffside all with a spectacular unobstructed ocean view, a distinguished underground wine cellar, a unique spa oasis and secluded silver sand beach; one of the best on the island for snorkelling and diving. Ti Kaye offers its guests a variety of soft adventure excursions to complete their vacation experience. See listings for more information.

We don’t believe that a vacation is just the resort, the beach and the food. Yes that’s an important part and can be everything however, there is much more to a vacation that these things. You’ve worked hard all year and planned this vacation for a long time so don’t lose the opportunity to see and do more and learn about St.Lucia and its people.

This being our belief, we have put together a resort and a bunch of things to see and do that will really make your vacation here not just a destination but a learning experience and one that you will delight in doing.

Our selection process is rigorous by island standards and we tend to go with ones that are either home grown or non main stream and that offer a certain charm and character. We did it this way so that our guests would not be thrown in with the masses on the other main stream tours offered on island. That way, we have become more personalized and the people with you will most likely be other guests at the resort.

Follow the links on this page for details of our tours. You can book them in advance or when you get here. Try one or 2 of them and see the island while you are here, St.Lucia is beautiful.

A RANGE OF TOURS ON OFFER

The Land and Sea tour is quite popular, if you don’t want to go on the land and sea, you can book a boat to take you anywhere. In fact you can do this with almost all the tours i.e. build your own and have them personalised. Just ask when you get there and I’m sure the front office will get you sorted out.

Follow the links on this page for details of our tours. You can book them in advance or when you get here. Try one or 2 of them and see the island while you are here, St.Lucia is beautiful.

The Beach

Ti Kaye is located in a bay called “Anse Cochon” which translated means “bay of pigs”. It has always been one of the more popular beaches to visit on the west coast of St.Lucia. During the day we get a few visitors. Since we are a volcanic island, the dark (basalt) rocks produce a black sand. This mixed with the coral sand gives us the silver or gray sand you find on our beach. Watch out, it gets really hot during the day so wear slippers. We don’t doctor the pictures of the beach on this site. It looks lighter in colour when it is dry and darker when wet. It will never be a white sand beach nor will we attempt to make it so.

There are 166 steps down to the beach. Going down is easy; it’s coming back up that’s hard so just take your time. We don’t have a shuttle, however, if you are unable to make it, ask one of the staff to get you a ride. There is always a vehicle around that can help you back up.

On the beach you will find chairs, side tables, portable umbrellas and kayaks (and a volley ball court). The dive shop also has snorkeling gear and there are some good reefs with in swimming distance from the shore line. There are other beaches south of us and some venture to them on a kayak. Please let us know if you are going and how long you will be for safety sake.

You will also meet the “beach dudes” Terry and Mervan; they work for Ti Kaye. It’s mostly Terry’s turf; Mervan fills in on his days off. They are both excellent people and will get you sorted right out with whatever your needs are, so look out for them. In case you are wondering, that is their official title.

Lastly, please know that all beaches on St.Lucia are public. We are secluded but not private so we do have others to share the beach with, and that includes the other guys on the beach. Most of them look intimidating at first but they are pretty much all polite and don’t really harass anyone. Their purpose in life is to sell souvenirs mainly to visiting boats. However when the boats are not around, they do tend to venture on to the beach dudes turf. If you are not interested, say so and they will leave you alone. If you have concerns, lets us know and we can get it sorted out for you.

Saint Lucia is a lush mountainous island boasting the Caribbean Sea on the west coast and the Atlantic Ocean on the east. Known as the Helen of the West, this island paradise has a dramatic topography; twin pitons, walk in volcano and numerous waterfalls scattered across the island. Underwater, the beauty is just as spectacular with a number of well known dive spots listed.

1. Anse La Raye Wall
A dramatic wall falls from the surface, covered in Sea Whips, Gorgonians and soft coral. Delicate soft corals and large feather duster worms can be found in this site.

2. Wreck of the "Lesleen M"
A 165-foot freighter that was sunk in 1986 in Anse Cochon. It is covered in Soft Corals and Sponges with a variety of reef fish. Its conveniently located in the bay right in front the resort.

3. Anse Cochon north / South & Virgin Cove
A steep slope with large boulders covered in sponges and gorgonians in the shallower part.

4. Anse Chastanet
A plateau between 5-25 feet that drops away to 140 feet. The reef is covered in gorgonians, soft corals and sponges.

5. Fairyland
This reef sparkles with vibrant colors of many varieties of coral and sponges. The plateau area slopes gently from 40 to 60 feet. Turtles are occasionally seen on this site.

6. The Arch
Patois for "Big Rock", Grand Caille is known as a very dramatic dive site with deep water gorgonians and sea whips.

7. Devils' Hole
Patois for "Devil's hole", Trou Diable is a fascinating location with large barrel sponges and well developed coral heads with schools of chromis and grunts in profusion.

8. Pinnacles
Our most visually stunning dive site with four spectacular seamounts that rise dramatically from the depths to within a few feet from the surface. These structures provide a shelter for trumpet fish, filefish, frog fish, and sometimes seahorses while diving.

9. Superman's Flight
Situated at the base of the Petit Piton where the cliff face was used in the filming of Superman II. The steep slope is covered by many soft corals and there is a great profusion of fish life.

10. Piton Wall
Also at the base of the Petit Piton with a dramatic wall that drops to many hundreds of feet below.

11. Coral Gardens
A steep slope with many different species of corals and large barrel sponges. The unusual sargassum trigger fish can be spotted in the deeper areas with the odd barracuda.

Ti Kaye Village Resort is so named because in Creole, Ti Kaye means Little House and that’s what the resort looks like, a village of little houses.

When I was gelling the concept, I felt that this type of resort was not only the sort of place I would like to stay at, but it was the style that I felt best suited the lay of the land and the location.

Since we are built on a hill side, all cottages and rooms face the ocean, so all have a great view. The down side of that of course are stairs everywhere. For that reason we are not recommended to persons who may have difficulty with many stairs, and we have no wheel chair ramps. The difference between all of them is their proximity to the ocean and level of privacy. All are private but some are more than others. I actually laid out the entire resort myself and 5 chaps wielding machetes and a 150-foot tape measure and a tall stick. Not quite as scientific as you thought. It took us 6 weeks in the absolute worst conditions you can think off: rain, heat, no shelter, no running water, no road access, it was tough. Next time I will supervise from a distance! I am older and wiser now.

There are aspects that all cottages and rooms alike have in common aside from the list of room amenities that are listed under the “About Ti Kaye – What’s here” section. All have outside garden showers, large balconies and hammocks. They are designed so that air flows through them or you can close up and switch on an A/C.

In the rainy season, sometimes before and after heavy rains we get “rain flies” or ants with wings. Don’t be concerned, they are harmless; they don’t bite and are more of a nuisance. They are attracted to light so leave a light on outside and not inside or in the pool. We can’t stop them; we are on the edge of the forest.

I put IPod docks in the cottages recently but if you are a little behind in technology, do not despair; we have a few CD players that we can bring to your room.

For a more detailed description of each room type, click on the categories following. I hope you find something that suits your taste and budget.

Ti Kaye may be a small secluded resort but that’s no excuse to be denied some of the conveniences of modern living. We have tried to include much to do as well as comforts without destroying that rustic, barefoot feel to the place. Saint Lucia is mountainous and while it is a beautiful country, its roads are not suitable for all drivers. We suggest that if you not familiar with the island, you allow us to arrange your transfers when you arrive. Car rentals can be arranged the following day at the resort.

Also note worthy is our famously bad drive way! We are a mile from the main road so don’t be alarmed when your driver starts down a bumpy winding road, yes you are on the right track.

Built at the cliff’s edge with dramatic views of the silver sands of Anse Cochon and the azure sea below, the latest addition to Ti Kaye Village Resort is Kai Koko Spa. With such unapologetic beauty, it’s no wonder the spa is quickly becoming one of the most sort after on the island; Ti Kaye’s best kept secret.

This intimate resort spa has 3 Treatment Rooms crafted, as its Creole name suggests, from richly grained Coconut Wood.

A must: a Relaxation / Meditation Room with a Private Jacuzzi perfectly positioned to take in the stunning Caribbean Views and open one’s self to the mystical magic of Ti Kaye Village

Drawing inspiration from island, the scents, the colours and nature, the Spa Menu features Treatments and Rituals created locally using Saint Lucian Treasures: natural, organic ingredients plucked from the virgin rainforest, lush mountain valleys and the mineral-rich, crystal waters of the island.
With a name like Kai Koko, it is not surprising that both Cocao and Coconut feature in many of the Spa’s Signature Treatments, among them the chocolate body scrub which uses raw cocao and nutmeg, and the coconut moisturizer which contains fresh coconut cream and other ingredients. Enjoy the oxidising qualities of a Coconut body Scrub and massage combo is guaranteed to leave you refreshed and energized or simply wanting more.

Kai Koko Spa is pure nirvana set on the backdrop of lush vegetation and still waters.

The brainchild of Nick Pinnock, resort Owner and its General Manager Katie Rosiak, the concept was borne from the combining inspirations and the appreciation for the local resources married with the eastern philosophies of wellness, healing and relaxation. Perfectly blended to deliver a product worth experiencing.

At Kai Koko Spa, each treatment is a Ceremony, beginning with cool fruit tea combined with a foot cleansing and massage ritual.

Be prepared to be blown away. Kai Koko Spa....unique!

Nestled high on the cliff side above the Anse chochon cove, 33 charming gingerbread cottages line the sloping hill. Rustic elegance in the midst of nature. Each cottage or house as the name suggests (ti kaye is Creole for little house), are purposely built facing the ocean to afford an all consuming breathtaking view of the azure waters below. Each cottage is accessible by a matrix of paths and stairs which are lit up at night.

All cottages and rooms alike share certain aspects including a private outdoor garden shower, i-pod docks and a large balcony with a twin hammock. Their design allows for the easy flow of air to keep the rooms cool when open, air conditioning if preferred closed.

Although we offer a quiet escape from the world, we have recently extended our free WIFI service which can now be accessed in all rooms for the guests who can’t completely unplug. For more details on each room category, view the listing below to find the perfect fit for you!

‘Rustic elegance’ is a term generally used to describe Ti Kaye Village Resort & Spa, and well deserving at that. When its owner, Nick Pinnock started back in 1991, the idea of a hotel was furthest from his mind. An avid diver and keen businessman albeit at the age of 23, saw the purchase of the land as a mere investment which could have been offloaded at a later date for a sizeable profit. He didn’t. Instead of taking up the many offers on the vast land which was far away from everything, he decided to rethink his strategy. There was no electricity, no water, no telephones nor road access. He had to look beyond all the limitations and think creatively.

It was indeed an opportunity to develop something which he could be proud of. After mulling over the many ideas which immediately came to mind, the concept of Ti Kaye was born. The task ahead wasn’t going to be easy. With the support and candid advice from his then father-in-law, the late Wayne Brown, he refined the already conceptualized idea of the resort, seeking his advise in the planning and construction.

It would be a true hidden escape overlooking the calm blue waters. Quaint, high in demand yet never overcrowded. Small, well equipped cottages would sit on the backdrop of lush vegetation, surrounded by flora and indigenous fauna. The calm waters in the marine reserve would provide spectacular snorkeling, kayaking and diving. The cool seas breezes would help relax and rejuvenate those wanting to relax on the secluded beach below. However, with this image in mind, the risks were quite high but as time drew on, the anticipation of a finished product reenergized the small team he had enlisted to assist in the construction phase. Despite the small shoe string budget, little knowledge of construction and all the things which could have gone wrong, Nick persisted and Ti Kaye opened its doors in 2001 with 33 cottages of which only 4 were complete and ready to receive guests, a gym, small restaurant and small reception area.

Some 10 years later, the resort has seen a complete facelift; underground wine cellar, newly refurbished cottages, large beach bar and restaurant, a dive shop with training centre and dive boat, a famous spa and unique cliff edge bar overlooking the expanse of the bay and sea below.

With warm and welcoming staff, most from nearby villages, the homely feel which most resorts lose when they get too big isn’t lost at Ti Kaye. As a 4 star intimate boutique resort, Ti Kaye’s staff offers a personal service which is appreciated by the guests who frequent its grounds.

‘Looking back on how I started Ti Kaye on a mere shoe string budget and no construction background. I’m still amazed at how everything turned out. I threw caution into the wind and knew that losing everything was a real possibility. In hindsight, with all the lessons learnt, there is little I would change and I am proud to welcome you to Ti Kaye Village Resort & Spa. Rustic elegance.'

Nick Pinnock, Owner

Ti Kaye Village Resort & Spa is located on the secluded Anse Cochon cove on the legendary island of Saint Lucia - perfectly nestled along the cliff side overlooking the serene waters, which hungrily lap the silver sand on the secluded beach below. An ode to Mother Nature, the resort is often described as inspired by nature; each cottage purposely built into the landscape, drawing from the beauty of its lush natural surroundings. Equipped with modern amenities and some unusual quirks, guests are invited to unplug and indulge in the purposely built outdoor shower, dip in their personal pool or simply hang about in the hammock while watching the sunset from their balcony. Enjoyment of the postcard perfect views and all Ti Kaye Village has to offer while relaxing in your cottage, affords total privacy by design.

The traditional architectural design is resonant throughout the property whether guests choose to dine at the open air Kai Manje restaurant near the pool, or make the journey down 166 spiralling steps to the beach front restaurant, Ti Manje. Excite your palate with delectable creations from the newly appointed Chef’s gastronomic repertoire infused with a Creole flavour. After, chill in the recently opened bar, sipping in both the rich views and some made to order island cocktails.

Set your clock to island time and be seduced by the Ti Kaye experience; adventure for the thrill seekers on the high seas maybe whale watching or diving into the unchartered waters, a peaceful oasis for total rejuvenation and awakening of senses at Kai Koko Spa or a tropical haven to rekindle growing love with wine tasting in one of the Caribbean’s largest wine cellars. Get closer to each other and nature, whatever you are looking for and more, Ti Kaye never disappoints. Rustic elegance with a price tag to suit most budgets.
